Here in the States everyone is brainwashed in to changing there oil every 3000m - drives me nuts. Just good marketing for the oil change shops.

Nothing wrong with changing the oil at later intervals. Drive my GTS about 5000 km every year, but when I drive I'll make sure that it's not short distance driving. There is not a lot of contamination in the oil after two years, the 928 is very very easy on the oil. The key factor is to use a good lubricant and not the cheapest stuff. The 928 likes to be driven on the highway and for a long distance.

There are some factors that extend/shorten the lifespan (driving style, tracking, short distance driving, outside temperature....).

If your car has enough leaks and/or disappears oil inside the engine, topping it up should keep the oil fine without ever draining and refilling.

My oil looks, feels, smells and tastes just like new. Just over a year-dino oil, Torco 15W-40. Probably 1,000 miles.

I change my oil when I am in the mood. Typically, once a year.

I don't feel guilty if I go a bit longer.... I do plenty of bad $hit to feel guilty about and oil is not it
