The side of the block looks like Cosmoline to me .... if it's an absolute b*&%h to get off with normal cleaners then that will confirm it. They sprayed Cosmoline in a whole lot of places that didn't need it!
You still need to check every area on the motor, but if there's no oil trail to the rear, then it may be that it's just gearbox leakage. Pull the rubber plug from the rear of the torque tube and see if the input shaft seal is leaking, and also check if it's running down from the top cover. Cleaning should help to narrow down the source.

Doh yes the trans is clearly a manual .
