Interior Lights & Instrument Gauges - GTS
I'm guessing I shorted the overhead light when I pushed it firmly into the head liner. Pulled it back out - not shorting at present, but something happened.
Now my interior lights do not illuminate and the fuel gauge is showing zero, and the tach and speedo slightly 'bounce' while driving.
Earlier all instrument gauges were inoperative, then they started working minus the fuel gauge.
Also, the digital display section is illuminating just a few lines across the entire display.
I looked at and replaced fuse 39 and 41 - they appeared OK - without correcting the problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I have a 90 euro with almost all the same electrics. I did the same thing some years ago and had to fix the overhead light that was shorting against the body and draining the battery causing the digital dash to show the 'lines' you have.
Pop out the light and bend the tabs away from the body. I had to replace the bulbs that shorted out afterwards.
Is the car starting normally after sitting for awhile or labouring?

I was thinking the same as above. massive short (dead short) against the body.
Did you pull out the light to look and see if it was broken, they're
brittle buggers.

I'm thinking check the door chime relay, or olso any other relay that would be associated with the interior, common ground circuits are shared by many things.

Thanks, guys.
Our resident Electron Wrangler nailed it - fuse 25 was blown.
Strange description on the fuse chart for that one.

Randy,
Replace the crappy overhead light (front and rear headliner) with one from the VW Passat - do a search here. It is totally insulated, looks OE, and much safer in protecting from an incidental fire. You've already had one fire - protect the resurrected 'Phoenix' from a second one.
These are almost always available cheaply on eBay (if not the correct color, some plastic spray paint will correct that). Be sure you get the connector and pigtail wiring with it.
