Question Two second fuel pump run at start up

I have a 1983 Euro with mechanical fuel injection and I lose fuel pressure when the car sits for several hours. I noticed today that I do not get a two second pump run until I turn the ignition key to start. The engine starts hard and stumbles until I get fuel to all eight. If I then shut down and try again immediately it lights up in one heart beat and runs smoothly.

I have two questions:

Should I get a two second fuel pump run in the on position rather than start?

Should I expect to lose pressure when the car sits for three or four hours and is that the reason for the two second pump run?

Sorry, that is three questions,
Joe

Yes and Yes and Yes on your questions. My 83S is exactly the same. I always wait for the pump prime before I turn the key to start position.

I thought I was missing the 2 second run at On, but its quite hard to hear if there is ANY background noise. As long as you have the correct relay (from Roger), it should happen.

I also have an '83 Euro with CIS and after a few hours, I just blip the starter 2 or 3 times and then fire it up.
