I found it reassuring that the car was described in the best of eBay tradition. I'll bet the A/C only needs a re-charge.

The prior owner took great care of this vehicle's exterior. The interior is clean and in good condition
Apparently my notion of good condition is a bit flawed.

I think the dash cracks and shifter **** position speak volumes about the care this car has been subject to.

What a deal, probably only $10,000 in parts to get the engine running.

Very "light" damage. I think the intake plenum clamps are salvageable.

I LOVE that shifter handle. That's the most advanced design I've ever seen for a 928. THAT must be where the true value of this car is...

When you're car's on fire, there's a point where you have to say to yourself, "Eh, let it burn."

Check their other auction out.

"Some damage present on this vehicle"

Really?

And on the 928, wasn't the GTS the only 5.4 Ltre engine? Maybe that's why this car is worth saving

With all those "little tree" air fresheners I bet the interior of the car doesn't even smell like smoke!!

Nah, probably no permanent frame damage or anything. Won't take just a few ding-pullers to fix. You'll also notice the passenger airbag didn't deploy.

With any burn car you have the risk of "why did it burn? " .....did the timing belt let go or terminal trust bearing failure occur shortly before the "accidental fire" happened ? It is not unusual for fully insured cars to have such a coincidental problem when faced with expensive repairs , large loan balances , big monthly payments and little value as a dead not drivable car. It is common knowledge at salvage auctions that "a small engine fire" often means they did not pour enough gasoline on the engine before they dropped the match or some good samaritan happened on the scene with a fire exstinguisher and put out the fire !!

And for the steering wheel you could just cut the old airbag off and glue the centre back together with Super Glue.

Good as new.
