Power to the engine electric fan
Hi,
I read lots of threads on this topic. The fan on my 86.5 will turn on after I park the car only if the ignition key is in - in the accessories on position?.
Do I need to reconnect the +12V wire to a different location?
I was going to do that but then some threads talked about a "controller" and I don't want to fry it.
My WSM is missing the elec section but I'd like to get help referring to the actual wire's location inside the engine bay or fuse box.
Thanks

On an '86 that is normal - fans come on only with ignition in at least the accessory position (but off during starting) - the more complicated controller and after-running modes arrived with the S4 generation.
If you think on shutdown its just too hot you can leave the key in accessory position for a minute or so - the fan will run until the temp sensors (transmission temp & coolant temp) turn off - should be well <1 min typically.

I thought it made sense to have the fan turn on even with the car off. After moderate driving, my fan will turn on even a few minutes after the car is turned off. It also stays on for 4-5 minutes. The dashboard temp gauge shows a normal (half way) reading.
By leaving the keys in the accessories position, I ended up locking myself out.
If it's designed to stay off with no keys, then that's the easiest fix I've ever done.
thanks.

Note the Trans (Torque Converter) temp switch also triggers it - that's the only one that might need more time to cool (since no circulation) - however it shouldn't normally be that hot? - maybe check to see if there are any issues there.
Otherwise - just turn off
