M471 Factory Sport Suspension was Boge Red shocks and not Koni unless they have been changed.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

eBay is probably a very good idea. A really nice GTS very recently bid all the way up to just over $14000, but didn't sell. Of course it was just a crappy old automatic versus your 5-speed. Otherwise it appeared in very nice overall condition.
I really wonder just what your response was to my Private Messages and email.

Jerry, I'm sorry my message didn't make it to you, I'll resend it shortly. I've been busy at work all day. Thanks for your patience.
I've seen GTS cars go for way more than $14k! Or are all of those $35k+ ones 5-speed?
Now that we're mentioning eBay, I remembered that I put a few S4s on my watch list last month to get a feel for the values. Time to go check them out!

Like others have said, forget craigslist and be patient. My extremely clean auto S3 sold for 13 k last year. It took 8 months and only one person came to see it, and purchased it on the spot.
These cars just need to be connected with the right buyer. Lowering your price only scares away serious buyers.
Put an ad in the vehicle market place and get it detailed. And then wait.

Colin, I gave Ray a call and left a voicemail. If he doesn't get it, tell him I'm available tomorrow to talk/meet. But I have a lunch meeting from 11-2, and a dinner meeting from 5-8.
granprix, I recently learned that the black interior I have is not what I thought. I bought the interior from an '82 S thinking it was all the same as an S4. There are some differences. If you're still interested, PM me, I still have it.
And the ad had been taken down until I determined the new price. But I kept the appointments already scheduled and simply stated the price has gone up. Based on their offers, I think 10.5k should be my new asking price - what do you think?

If you want to get it sold, let the market decide by putting it on eBay. Give as much information about your specific car as possible, including scans of receipts if you can. I've seen far too many cars on eBay with descriptions that tell you nothing relevant to the specific car.
To get the best price, I'd address some of the issues first. GLWS

When a great condition S4 is pulling in $20-24k in top condition, with all records, and all maintenance up to date.
This car has had prior paint work. There is peeling clearcoat on front passenger fender, and afaik black was a single stage colour that year. There is a number of scuffs and damage that the car should really have a full respray. Figure a decent job at around $5k, 8-10k for a top quality job.
Then look at the lack of known maintenance on the timing belt/waterpump. So you are looking at a full front of engine service, as well as likely a top end service as well, that can easily be another 5-6k.
The dash is covered in cracks and appears to show spot of prior repairs. The damage to the seats from the pictures I saw is minimal.
Overall the colour combo is not a bad combo in my opinion. But what the car needs, I would say that you had the car priced correctly at around $8,000.00.
I've seen a number of very nice cars go for reasonable coin as of late, but the neglected cars will always fetch a lower price due to the work needed.
A local fellow sold an 89 (auto) for $14,500 earlier this year, the car was just repainted, all maintenance up to date (short of shocks). I felt that this car should have fetched a higher price as well, but the market will dictate.
I do however find it funny when a car shows up on CL and most critic it at a high level listing off what the car will require and state a low value to help the rennlister make a reasonable offer on the car.
But when a RL is trying to sell the 928, we all of a sudden think it is worth more, unless in the event like the GTS that Jerry feather purchased with the S4 engine and a number of bigger issues, then the car seems to be worthless to the collective.
I'm sorry if you feel I am critiquing this car too much. But mathematically speaking, I believed you had it priced correctly before.

I agree with Lizard928 - the 8k price was a quick sale no fuss price. But once the price bumps upward and the car still needs a few grand worth of cosmetic work, and doesn't come with the full maintenance history, with potential real mechanical needs in the wings, it becomes easy to let the car go and look at others in the market.
People generally want to get into these cars for a deal, or they want to buy knowing the car is rock solid and good to go. I appreciate forum input, but I've seen this perception that enthusiasts can set the market value of a car - the BMW m coupe dudes are a great example of this- "the coupe cartel" is a collective of mostly good spirited enthusiasts that by virtue of the rarity of their cars have effectively caused the value of their cars to climb, which is great- but then a company like "enthusiast auto" comes along and plays the same game but bump the prices of the same cars out of reach for many, and suddenly the forums cry foul! Haha anyway, it's the way if the world.
I couldn't have said it better myself, and lord knows I tried about 3 or 4 different drafts last night but none were as concise and eloquent as the post above.
I definitely want Arash to find a good buyer for his S4, but at $10k + there's plenty of reason to look around.
Thanks

This thread is starting to come closer to reality! ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I never could believe in a $12k price tag for this car. I agree with most of what Colin says. After considering all of you guys' great input, and looking around at as many 5-speed S4s as I could find, I feel like my car is probably worth 10k to the right person. I think 8-9k would be a good price if it lacked the options (or, if the offer came from someone who didn't care about the options). Likewise with the color combination. I know a lot of us do our own work, and I always figured a car like this going to such a person. It's not a garage queen so it would appeal to the sort that likes to tinker. That would be big savings on the belt/water pump job. And this car would be worth the investment of a paint job, too - it's a special one.
I have learned a lot in this thread. You guys are really helpful. I wish I came here first, to avoid some awkwardness with buyers. But I've gotten good offers and I'd be happy to let the car go on to the person who will love it, rather than keep messing around with trying to milk it by fixing more things, listing on ebay, etc.
