Default Durametric worth the money.

Looking at getting the Durameteric diagnostic cable and software for my Cayenne so I can monkey with the air suspension ride height coding and calibration.

For an additional $60 I can also get the ODB cable for my 94 GTS that lets the software read and clear the error codes for EZK, LH, Airbag, ABS/PDAS, RDK and Alarm. It also does activation for brake bleeding and transverse lock.

Is the ability to do that stuff worth $60.

I suspect that it will be if / when you need it, but not until then

I have a generic cable I used with my cayenne to do a ECU upgrade, it does not work with the durameteric software.

I bought the extra cable with my durametric for the Cayenne. I haven't tried it on the GT yet. Well worth the money for just being able to see fault codes. Actually I will be using it tomorrow as I have a traction control off fault that comes up once in a while. Time to figure it out.

Wow how does the activated brake bleeding work?

It allows you to open the ABS valve when you bleed the brakes. Supposed to help if after bleeding the brakes you still have excessive travel or a soft pedal after bleeding the brakes normally.

Is there a diagnostic option for the 88 S4? The durametric seems to be only good for 89 and up cars.

For an '88 you can use the Porsche Spanner/9268 tool, a Bosch Hammer/9288/KTS301, or Theo Jenniskens' UDT999 or PDT999 tool. Or you could just buy a Sharktuner 2, while more expensive it'll have most (all?) of the diagnostic functions that an '88 needs and you get the added bonus of being able to optimize your fuel and timing maps for any performance mods you may have.

The Durametric can't see the airbag fault and thus can't clear it - that's been my experience.

Only a Bosch Hammer can clear that code.

My understanding is that Theo's tool can clear it. It is the same as the Bosch hammer only in a laptop version as opposed to the exact tool itself.

The sharktuner would be hard to justify because of the cost. Time to get the multimeter out and figure out the readings.

Absolutely correct.
Theo's system is what I have and highly recommend.

Yes Theo's can read the airbag fault and clear the code. And it can tell you if your airbag ecu is bad, ask me how I know!
