Default Belly Pan Ducts update

I'm heading back home for a few days this coming week. I'll get the molds finished, and make a few sets to test out.

I'll need a couple of volunteers to test them before I produce a hundred sets.

Let me know, who's game.

Just for record, I would have been happy to test run them but I unable to. My car does not get driven in cold weather months up here, so no miles can be put on them. Also, as I am in the first phase of relocation and my car is 700 miles away. I would've contributed to the effort.

My '89 came sans belly pans, so I'll volunteer. As I recall you're in the Reno area...?

I think the belly pan was the same for all 928s. I got the molds made, but I had to fly back to San Antonio, before I was able to press out any complete sets. I'll be home again Nov 1st. I'll get them pressed, and spot welded, and get a set to each of you.

I bought a 3D printer too. Half of the sets will be aluminum, and the other sets will be a poly carbonate. I would like to see which one holds up better to heat and elements.

I don't know if it could be made to fit, but I don't think they're the same. My '86 took a different belly pan than the later cars, and no one makes an aftermarket unit that fits them; I lucked out and 928intl was able to scrounge one up for me. Also, the older cars don't have a front and rear, just the one. Finally, mine has no place to mount any ducts...

There are belly pans for 78-84,85-86, and 87-95. The one for the 78-84 and 85-86 are mostly the same except the 85-86 has a larger indentation for the alternator.

The 87-95 models have 2 separate pans. These ducts attach to the front pan.

Default Update

I bought a 3D printer, so far I haven't been able to find a plastic that can hold up to the heat under the engine, and it isn't summer yet, with 160 degree road surface temps.

For now the plastic replacements are out.

I've got a lot of hours, invested in the dies for stamping out the four pieces needed to make metal replacements. Then the two halves need to be put into a finger brake, and the mounting flanges bent so they can be screwed or riveted onto the belly pan. Then spot welded together for final assembly.

I was going to give these things away, but I don't have enough scrap sheet metal to make that possible. I've got a call into Steel Engineers, here in Vegas for a price on the sheet metal, to make a hundred sets.

I need to know how much of a demand there is for these things. I don't mind making them as long as I break even, just need to recover the cost of the sheet metal. I think I can get a flat rate on shipping.

I need to know who wants a set. Sort of like how Shawn did the watches. If enough people want a set then my best guess is in about 3 weeks I could be sending them out in the mail.
