What is the specification for the retaining screws for the HVAC controls?

I pulled the console apart in my '82 and found that there were only a couple of screws holding this stuff in, and that the warning panel below the HVAC was held in with two undersized screws that were sort of glued into place.
I took the one correct screw to the hardware store yesterday to find that it was bigger than 3mm and smaller than 4mm. They didn't have anything.
I looked in the PET and couldn't find a diagram showing the screws.
I searched here and found mention that they were listed in the PET as "3,9 x 13", which I interpreted as 3.9mm x 13mm. This seems to track with the hardware store problem.
I Googled that size and found this page, selling screws to secure the "Glovebox Lid to Dash on MERCEDES 230SL 250SL 280SL", which makes sense. $.95 apiece? It also says they are "DIN 7982 - 3.9 x 13".
So, I Google that and find this page, which seems to show that the SAE equivalent is "# 7 x 1/2". But, looking at the picture, they screws don't really look right. The screw I took out of there was a machine screw with a flat nose, not a self-tapping screw.
So, I've done my due dilligence and run myself in circles. Does anyone have the correct specifications for these screws?
