Stupid green wire (applies to all 78-84 except the 84 EuroS)
My motivation to dump the stock ignition and CIS on my 79 has moved up the to-do list.
Long story short my 79 developed an ignition miss out of nowhere, came on suddenly. It would cruise down the highway fine, under any kind of load it wasn't happy and it was idling about 200rpm too low.
Yup, green wire time. Thankfully I had a brand new one in the package on the shelf.
I figured it had to be that or the ignition module.
Consider this a Monday morning PSA to all 78-84 owners, if you have no idea how old that green wire is that connects to the distributor - just replace it now before you get stranded.
I'm sure 928 International and 928's R Us keep them in stock.
On that note, I do not recall anyone who services or refreshes the ignition modules. Is there anyone out there? Those units are not getting any younger, I doubt new ones are available and they do fail (I've lost two).

Yes, Mega Squirt and coil near plug set up like we've seen some do here.
My WUR doesn't want to keep in spec. The CIS overall is just a technology that the "fun" is wearing off on.
This is big on my to do list.

I converted my 81 to the LH/EZF from an 85 EuroS, the 79 will be MS. I plan on using the stock timing ring on the flywheel vs some ring mounted on the nose of the engine. Not a big deal drilling a hole in the upper bellhousing and fabbing up a mount for the crank sensor.
I already have a complete EuroS intake. I don't like the idea of using adapters for the EFI injectors in the CIS hole.
My WUR is "stuck" in the fully warmed up mode, so I have a push button to manually activate the 9th injector for cold starts. Works like a charm, but a bit ghetto.

Since the module on a CIS car only controls ignition you could wire in an early GM type. I created the system on my suzuki powered airplane using a generic Wells DR 100, available at Autozone. cheap.
No point in using overpriced units from the hot rod suppliers.

Since my goal is ultimately dumping CIS and since I have so many spare ignition parts, I plan to start with the fuel side.
I'll probably end up using a GM ignition system controlled by MS since I want to use LQ9 coils.
Agreed, not to mention going with MSD components would be step backwards.
I successfully replaced the stock ignition brain with an MSD box about a decade ago on my supercharged 81.
I was willing to sacrifice reliability using the MSD box if it provided any gains, nothing was improved so I went back to stock.
