How to undo steering ball joint nut?
I'm replacing tie rods and ends. Have rod loosened at rack (used jack to help undo very tight 32mm joint), so now I just want to pop out the tie rod ends.
When I put torque on to undo the nut on the ball joint, of course the wheel turns not the nut (wheels in the air)! I've searched all the ball joint posts but no-one has mentioned this and what must be simple solution.
I have steering wheel unlocked so I could turn wheels into position to give good access to the nut. I thought of taking key out and locking steering in position, but I'm worried that puttingg a lot of torque on the ball joint nut (it's 65Nm to install) may damage steering wheel lock.
So what is correct way to lock the steering while getting the ball joint nut undone?
Thanks a lot!
Adrian

Adrian,
When the wheel turns, it has to come to a stop by resting against some part of the suspension/car. So don't worry about it. Just let it go to that position and take the nut off. Or you can use an air impact gun.
