Snap noise when sunroof closed
Closing my sunroof I heard a metal snap type noise on completed close. It will not open on drivers side but it will move a 1/2" on passenger side. Motor and trans seem to be ok. How do I attempt to remove to inspect.
Thanks

I just replaced both guide cables and it wasn't too hard or too expensive. Mine was broken on the driver's side and was doing exactly what you described. There were lots of resources online with pics, etc. that really helped.

I only reply cause I've just been through the whole sunroof thing this last week.
Perhaps you could pull the transmission (sunroof transmission of course) and try pushing it down and back by hand enough to get the inner liner off. Often with the transmission gear out the cables can be pushed back. Mine actually had a bolt caught in the track, but i was able to get it to go back with the tranny out. Gotta go back evenly side to side though.

Thank you for your replies. I will attempt to retract the sunroof to get the screws holding inner panel.
Ken,
The link will only load 2 pages for me. I had the same problem with that link yesterday on another thread.

One of the better sunroof writeups imho: http://www.nichols.nu/tip805.htm
It'd be better if it had pics, but there's not much to it.

Hey just checking on open threads today, don't want to leave anybody hangin'...did this issue get fixed? were you able to remove the tranny, push the roof back evenly by hand, pull the inner liner, and see, then fix the problem?

So I removed the inner panel and removed the 4 front bolts. I also removed the 4 side bolts (2 each side). The instructions say to remove 2 Phillips screws from the blocks and leave the center ones. This is where I get lost as I do not see these screws. 1988 have a different set up?

Hi Thomas -
I think mine had 2 small bolts on each side with a phillips screw in the middle. Go to this URL and scroll down to post #28 and then look at the 6th picture.

If you've already removed the 4 bolts on the large bar that goes across the top and the front and rear bolts from the two carriers on each side, the top should now lift off.

Burning Brakes
hi guys,
after a bit of study and after reading 1 thousand times sunroof guides, saturday afternoon I disassembled and reassembled the sunroof.
Really an easy job , now my sunroof is really quicker.
The only problem is with the front right corner of the sunroof.
I tried to adjust it but it sits too low when full closed.
I did not understand which bolt of the hinge I have to touch, the front or rear 8mm bolt , or again the brass one?
Thank you!
Francesco
