Hi to all and thanks for all other answers to my posts. Well here we go again to day car driving ok later part of day it all started to go wrong pulled in retail park it went on to what felt like 4 cyl slipped it in to neutral and gave it some wright hard foot but it did no clear the miss fire left the car for 3/4 hr it started ok no miss fire drove 1 mile miss fir starts again not the first time had this problem change plugs last time what the **** up cheers .

If something breaks after 27 years, it doesn't automatically mean you need something better - sometimes you just need a replacement. I don't think many here have switched to different types of coils.
How old are your ignition and coil wires? You may want to start the car in the dark, open the hood, and spray a mist of water over the wires. Do you see fireworks?

You probably have some loose wires, loose fuses or bad connections at the computers in the passenger foot area. You could have bad distributor caps, as the center connection goes bad in those too under high heat. Re-seat all the fuses, relays, computer connections and check your ignition trigger under the air box for damage or loose connection.

Most common cause seems to be faulty coil wire or connection. Check both coil wires very carefully, making sure that no part of the wire touches metal or another wire harness. Check inside the coil and ends of wire for corrosion or signs of burning.
If you drive the car with fuel but no ignition on four cylinders, the cat can overheat and burn the car to the ground.
