Scott - No immediate plans for the re-spray as I want the car mechanically reliable first.
Snowglobe - it did come with spoilers however PO removed the rear spoiler and replaced with a large S4 type spoiler. Happily this had disappeared before I bought the car.
1986 S2 already has the S4 brakes and suspension.

so then...looks like ya got no spoiler.
hmmm...did I mention that I'll be pullin' my fine high quality spoiler off in the next week or two in the great act of sacrilege (installing Subaru wrx wing)?
(or that my sunroof guide shoes are broken?)

Good seeing you PatMan.
Well she LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sequence of events leading to rebirth -----
1) New fuel pump and filter - fuel pump relay jumpered and fuel allowed to circulate the system for about 10 minutes. Checked everywhere for any leaks.
2) Fuel pump relay replaced - pump was running when cranked so CPS good - still no start.
3) Checked for spark with a plug from each distributer - no spark on either bank.
4) With Jim Bailey screaming in my ears - Relay! Relay! Relay!!! - replaced LH, EZ-F & Fuel Pump with new 53B relays.
5) Remembered John Speaks (JDS Porsche) advice about the kick down relay on an S2 auto. Checked it had not been replaced with a 53B and that the correct relay was in place - all good.
6) Made sure both rotors were turning when the engine was cranked to ensure the twin dizzy belt was in one piece.
7) Replaced both amplifiers with know good ones - no start
8) Replaced EZ-F with a known good one - no start
9 Replaced LH with known good one - car starts perfectly and idles as it should.
Drive round the block a couple of times an WOW!!!
Thanks to Sean (Uber mechanic) for sanity checks.
Thanks to John Speak for tips relevant to an S2 and for the tested Brains.
Tomorrow will be a wash day and then on to the lift to see what damage there is.
