Who can copy/supply keys these days?

I had exactly 1 key when I sent mine to 928 Int. Very scary thought. It looked fairly worn to me. It was the one with the security tip on it. Copies came back perfect. IMHO it was the only way to go.

It had the same shape as my old key but was much smoother. I called the dealer and they basically told me "oh well, we gave you what you ordered". Great service huh? Pay $55 for a spare key and it doesn't work!

If someone wants the address, e-mail me or if I remember when I get home I'll post it.

Joel,
My records show two messages between us about the HVAC system - no record of a message on making a key.
And, yes, Jeannie can order a key by VIN - but it is cut on that same PCNA machine in Atlanta...

Hi Wally,
I sent an email to order@928gt.com on Monday August 4th, asking about a bunch of parts and the keys.
I might as well order a key by VIN from you rather than my local. I'm not inclined to mail off my only key to have it copied, plus I have no alarm key (but I have the alarm) so I might as well get one of those.
Thanks,
-Joel.

Sidewinder keys and locks seem not to like each other. I have keys that came with the car that work in the ignition only, I have copies of keys made locally that only work in the ignition as well, the key I had Porsche make works in the ignition and one of the doors.
My thinking is that the problem is not so much the keys but the locks themselves that fail over a period of time. No amount of graphite lubrication has made any difference. Removing and repairing the locks seems to be the only solution.

It seems that whoever is running the key machine at PCNA in atlanta is doing sloppy work.I ordered a new "factory" key a few months ago and it took 3 tries to get one that would at least open one door and work in the ignition switch. The first 2 would work anywere.

Joel,
I do tech support for 928 Specialists, so any message to tech@928gt.com comes to me. All other messages to 928 Specialists go to David or Jeannie. They, and the 928 Specialists office, are located in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. I am located in Acworth, Georgia, six hours away, near their former location.
Getting a key cut locally is worth doing some searching and driving....

the key blanks we have are the not lighted fixed plastic heads ......pulling a lock apart and re-stacking the shims is a $35 labor charge per lock . We can probably arraign to have our key machine available Saturday the 18 of October to make key copies at the Sharktoberfest but would not be re-stacking locks that day ....
