Default Check valve at fuel pump

My 83 M28/11 with CIS injection is fuel starved at start up after it sits for 3 to 4 hours. I had a new fuel pump put on after the engine swap from the 84 M28/20 to a high pressure pump and it came with a new check valve, but I would still like to change the valve to be able to rule it out as the cause. I already have the valve and I am wondering if there are any tricks to replacing it. How much fuel will I encounter when I take the old one off and is there a way to relieve pressure before I loosen the connectors? If my theory is correct there will be no pressure anyway, but my theories have a way of not always being correct.

Have you checked your accumulator for leaks? The accumulator holds pressure for restarts.

Roger,
I bypassed the accumulator when I changed over to CIS.

Joe the accumulator was only fitted to CIS cars so what did you bypass? You fitted a M28/11 CIS to a USA 84 car right?

Roger,
I had an 84 with electronic injection and when I switched to the 83 with CIS, it wanted an in tank auxiliary pump and an accumulator. You talked me out of them because they were not necessary. I still believe that to be true. A ll I want to do is replace the check valve or restrictor valve to see if it is my start up problem and I need to know how much gas I might encounter when I remove the valve..
Thanks for taking the time to help me out on this,
Joe

I just did this on an '86.5 and lost less than 1/3 gallon.
