Default 78 Tensioner rebuild ?

The tensioner was full of hard material and stuck, judging by the work done on this car everything is a mess. I am not sure how this differs from by previous rebuilds but design seems less complex.

Rubber seal has just the rod and no clamp to seal the rod, there is a gap that may have caused this residue build up.

No O'ring on lower area some type of plastic collar to seal it.

The washers were stuck together and flat I have taken a few off should there be a gap for every 5 washers?

The gasket was also missing but not sure if this year requires one. This is a father and son project so the process is a little slow.

There is a kit that you can buy to rebuild the tensioner. Roger Tyson stocks them.

Mark I will quote you in the morning.
No gasket not needed. You need an adapter as the early boot is NLA.
