Default Trailering to LA

Fierce is on his way to see Greg Brown for a transmission fitting. When did trailer rental get so expensive? That's my father in law, Larry, who so kindly offered to pull the car from Memphis to LA where he lives.

It is cheap as long as you return to the same facility - drop of at another location makes it expensive.

It should be at Greg's this Tuesday and I won't be flying in till September 12 to pick it up. So there will be plenty of time to check it out.

I picked my car up from Greg yesterday (390 mile driver back home). As you know, it's well worth the trip. I'm now confident that I need do nothing (fluids aside) until I the TB needs redoing (in 3-4 years). Have a good trip!

Except for whatever confidence you gain by being able to see the car in the rearview mirror the whole way, shipping is very often cheaper and easier than trailering a car cross-country. Cruising a 12 MPG or less for a couple thousnd miles chews into the wallet. Add in lodging/meals/etc for that and the return ride, and shipping looks even better. As much as I love a cross-country trip, dragging a car on a U-haul doesn't do it that well for me. Just sayin'...

I thought about trailering mine up to where I am going to college and it was $110 for a cheap u haul or $80 for gas for me just to drive the 928 up.

They always want an arm and a leg for one way trailers.

Gregg will fix anything you have to worry about and even fix things you didn't know need fixing, so rest assured your 928 is in some of the best hands out community has to offer.

Half true, just as it is with the trucks.

If you're going to a place people are moving to, it's expensive.

If you're going to a place people are moving from, i.e. moving rolling stock, at your expense, from an area with a glut to an area with a need, it's a lot cheaper.

It might actually be possible to get a cheaper rate by backtracking to pick up and/or drop off in a city 50-100miles away. Easy to play with the parameters on their websites. IIRC, it was cheaper for us, from Austin, to drop off in Newark than Columbus, OH.

If you could wait another month you could attend Sharktoberfest when you come out

So very tempting! I don't think GB would want the car sitting around there for an extra month.
