Default Easy maintenance for a better running car

In the process of hunting down EMI on my knock count I replaced the engine strap. Cleaned up the old one two years ago but installed a new one yesterday. The difference is noteworthy. The voltmeter reads close to 14v again, the engine runs smoother where I thought is was already smooth and even the occasional hard shift in the transmission is gone. Many people change the battery strap but the engine strap should be done at the same time. Can be done without a lift or jack stands, just remove the rear belly pan.

Now you've got my attention, what strap are you talking about, Can you tell me exactly where it is located. Thanks for the heads up , Terry

Yes...I assume you are talking the ground strap? Where did you find a new one and what did it cost? Sounds like a great idea. Thanks!

The engine ground strap, it grounds the engine to the chassis. Also grounds the EZK and LH through the engine. Same as the battery ground strap, but them on the engine side. It is on the right side of the engine, low, behind the front wheel. Remove the rear belly pan and you'll see it, it hangs just under the exhaust manifold.

Got it from Roger, Porsche original, and is pretty cheap.

This is nice to know as I have engine ground straps heading my way anyway (originals looked pretty tired when I was under working on new mounts).

That's the only thing that puzzled me about your post. Aren't there two ground straps left and right for both coils?

Not the coil grounds. It is a big copper strap, similar to the battery strap! But round. Look low, near the oil pan, right side. For RHD maybe left side?

That's the ground I was thinking of p/n 928.612.814.00

PET shows ground cable other side 928.612.819.00, but I have just looked and that must be ground from LHS coil bracket to the front rear of LHS cam cover (behind distributor). I did order one of those (928.612.819.00) thinking it must be another engine ground but at least I have a spare now!

I did order the coil grounds by mistake thinking they were engine grounds!

The p/n I should have got is 928.612.011.00 I'm pretty sure. Position 2 - "ground cable" - on illustration 902-06 in the 87-91 PET
