Default Squeaky Hatch

I have been pouring over the hatch threads and found several reasons for a squeaky hatch.
  • Bad receiver
  • missing receiver liner
  • bad hatch seal
  • missing or improperly adjust bumpers
  • cracked hatch latch
  • missing teflon patches on hatch
  • improperly adjusted mid hatch bumpers

I have replaced all the bumpers, replaced the receiver liner with a new factory one and siliconed the crap out of my seal.
I have discovered the hatch latch has the hairline crack so well known to the 928. This is what I seem to be fighting. Problem is the hatch latch is about $500 new. Well, it's not so much a problem but it just sucks that they cost so much.

Does anyone know of a repair procedure for a hairline crack in this latch or is the pot metal just hosed and I need to get the new one?

Hi Jeff,

The 'hairline crack' syndrome has happened to me on both of my 928s. I bought 'non-alarm' latches for relatively little money (in 928 terms) from Roger. The hatch squeaks, in both cases, ceased immediately after changing the latch.

My reasoning in buying new latches: these are 28 year-old parts; in another 28 years these latches will undoubtedly not be available, so might as well swap them for new parts now, while they are available.

Just remove the hatch.

Rich.

Myles in NZ is running a batch of alarm latch bodies for circa $200 each.
Most cost effective fix is the upper latch, no alarm and a random key = $156.46
And yes I do stock them 8>)
