Default HVAC box sealant

Hi guys, I am trying to figure out what the grey paste is that was used to seal the HVAC boxes in our 928's from the factory.

I had to remove my heater core and now need to put it back in and reseal it . I also searched but couldn't find any information on it from previous threads that I could find.

All help is appreciated .

You can use 3M Stripcaulk, sold at body shop supply places. You get way more than you will need though. You can also use thw caulking strips sold at Home Depot. These are the same material but in much fatter strips. With your hands, it's easy enough to roll the strips thinner for the HVAC box. You still get a whole lot more than you'll need.

Thank you both of you, If I had time I would take you up on your offer Tom but I need to do this job today as I have to drive to work tomorrow.

Porsche will sell you 999 911 214 50 sealing cord, for sealing the HVAC box halves back together, but I ended up using the 3M stripcaulk instead, worked better.

+ 3? on the 3M stripcaulk, it has many uses. If we lived close I'd get some to you.

^Right about the 3M, you get a lot more than you need, but it is pretty cheap and you can get it at almost any auto paint supply store. It's 3M 08578 (Black), and if I could get it to you yesterday, I would send you some of my surplus... (Actually for those following along, mailing would probably be pretty messy.)

I bought my strip caulk from Amazon - its also good for a few other places on the 928, like replacing the white sealant on the top of the rear shock towers.

Sorry for the late follow up. I bought some and it worked like a charm. I just had to rearrange the vacuum lines as the PO decided to hook them up to the wrong vacuum pods.

Thank you guys
