Yes, as you described it that's how it is done.

The oil level connector cover WAS available when I did much of this a few years back, but NOT as a 928 part. I found it in PET under 944 parts. Anyone who has one that is 'toast' like most are, might look in the 944 parts catalog.
Gary,
Do you recall the part number or where in the 944 is that connector cover used?

Alternatively use a rubber cover for a 44 lbs fuel pump.

Aryan,
Where can you get them separately?

I got it in Germany but I think you can get them on EBay in the US.

I have seen them on Ebay with the fuel pump, but never seen them alone. Will keep a look out.
Thanks

I've seen OPG write-up that refers to "unbolting and dropping oil pickup" into pan.

Please can anyone explain in more detail? I'm looking at WSM that shows the "oil intake tube" on diagram that I expect is the "pickup tube" referred to. Typically the WSM has nothing to say on subject of changing the gasket, so no info on what to do with that oil tube.

Thanks

With crossmember out, no need to drop the oil pickup tube.

Make sure you clean the mating surfaces both on the oil pan and the engine block properly and make sure they are not oily when you put the gasket on. Use ties to hold the gasket in place on the pan, then when you have enough bolts holding the land & gasket in place snip the ties and pull them out.

If you are using Roger's stud kit, simply put the new silicon gasket on the studs in the block, it will stay in place and then slap on the pan.

I've got the Porsche cork gasket on order, so will use Bilal's tip for zip ties keeping it in position until fair number of bolts are in.

Not removed pan yet so don't know how much of gasket stuck to pan/block mating surfaces. What's recommended for cleaning gasket off those surfaces without damaging them?

Thanks a lot

Adrian

Don't bother with the gaskets. Instead, just use hondabond and seal it to the girdle. This solves many problems.

Interesting option! So I could justuse some kind of RTV liquid gasket and not use any cork or silicone gasket at all?

To clean the mating surfaces I use a blade at 90 degrees to the surface to clean it. This will make sure you don't gouge the metal.

I have used the silicon gasket for both my cars with good results.
