Best years…………...

81, nice and simple to work on.
Has the best oiling system out of all of the years (consumes the least and has the best pickup)
It still has the non turned down drive shaft in the torque tube. It also has the stronger solid half shafts that can have both sides bolts removed so you don't have to mess with the large wheel bearing nut.
Electronic injection for better efficiency and more possibilities for HP with Euro and early components as it also has the mildest camshafts and lowest compression which makes it safer to boost .
Still a remote possibility of not having a sunroof without emptying your bank account.
Also the option for automatic climate control so it can be just as modern (A/C wise) as the later cars.
And the list goes on.....
PS. Yes I am biased

I like to shift so no AT for me. I'm of average height and really enjoy my sunroof. Don't have a problem with head clearance. My '87 S4 was purchased brand new and I hope to never have to part with it.
So - - - 1987 S4 with stick shift

Dave...yup...lots o grass to mow! Lol....that was last June!
I really like the OB mainly due to the lack of electronics. I also like the rear end of the OBs more than the S4 style.....just personal preference, of course.
