Default Cracked cylinder wall on cambelt tensioner?

Stripped down the cambelt tensioner from the GTS today, this is what greeted me:

Appears to be a crack down the length of the wall at approx 5:30 o'clock.

The tensioner had some residual oil, but was effectively empty. Doesn't look like a score mark as there's no wear and it runs the length to the cylinder wall, not just the range of movement for the tensioner arm.

Anyone seen this before and care to speculate the cause

Looks too perfect to be a stress crack. And, as you say, it extends the full length of the sleeve. [scratches head]

Are you able to get the piston out?

Piston came out with the lightest of pressure. No mark or damage on the piston wall that I can see.

That looks like a manufacturing defect in the tube the sleeve was made from.

That's very common. As long as it's still round and smooth I would not worry about it

Had the exact same crack on the 89 GT I used to have. I put i back together and never had a problem with it.

put it back into service it will function as designed.
I suggest to refill it with STP oil treatment, and use Hondabond 4 on the tensioner gasket.
