Question Trustworthy Machine Shop for 32v Heads in SouthEast??

As stated, is there any good machine shops that are well versed on the 928/951 32 valve heads, especially if running a Cometic MLS head gasket and Simard Tool head studs? Looking for something between Atlanta and Charlotte on the North-South axis, and Asheville and Columbia on the East-West axis, that I could deliver personally without too much trouble. Thanks in advance.

Big-Un,
I hope someone can chime in and give you a reputable shop. My engine was all done by Greg Brown in California and it is bullet proof. If you don't mind shipping to him they would do the job correctly.

Hey Chris, long time no see! Hope all is well.

If you don't mind packing and shipping, Greg Brown is the go-to guy for me on this kind of stuff.

After having a hand in resurrecting the last GT that Chris had his hands on, I sure hope more care is being taken with the current car.

Sean, I'm not sure exactly what I did to **** in your Wheaties, but you and your ilk are the reason I no longer hang out on Rennlist. I was here in the waning days of Porschefans, into the days of the Rennlist e-mail board, and into the current discussion forum. The tone back then was always helpul and collabrative. Somewhere along the line people felt that without being face to face they didn't need to be civil. I really don't understand it. If your problem was me asking some questions about my current car and stating "that I didn't receive many records with the car from the PO" that is the truth. I did not cast aspersions on the PO, or anything that he may or may not have done. I was not sure what had been done due to a lack of paperwork/logbook.

Now to my former GT, as there were multiple owners between my ownership and your time working on it, I don't know what "issues" you are referring to. When I bought the car in '99 it had been treated very poorly by the PO and there were some wiring issues with a failed alarm install, and the crappiest stereo install you ever saw. Holes cut/drilled into the door panels and the inner structure of the rear wheel wells. The paint was horrible and there were signs of leaks on the interior. I did some cosmetic work to the car, and as everyone here on Rennlist knows, I got crazy with the wing and hood and paintjob on the hood. As I have stated before, you can fault me for my taste. You can fault me for the cosmetics, if you don't like them. You cannot however fault me for the "normal" mechanical work I performed on the car. Brake upgrades, suspension upgrades, belts, hoses, waterpump, steering rack, etc.... You know, the items that are normally done during a long period of ownership. You can sit there safe behind your computer and sling sh*t all day, and I could really care less. I know in my heart and mind what I have and have not done, and regardless of the crap you sling, I will not lose one minute's sleep over it. Have a great day Sean.

Now for those that are actually trying to help, thank you. I may have to ship the heads to Greg. I'd rather work local if possible though.

Kevin in Atlanta, as stated in my OP I am removing the heads to replace the head gaskets, and I want to make sure they are inspected, magnafluxed or checked with dye penetrant for cracks, surfaced, etc.... to the specs necessary for use with Cometic head gaskets.

Dr. Bob, thank you. Yes it's been awhile. There are alot of people I really miss in the 928 community, you being one of them. I have been dealing with life, as has everyone else. I also have a couple of other hobbies now. As I get older the importance of cars has been slowly waning, and the importance of my youngest granddaughter has taken over with an all consuming fire. I'd rather spend 5 minutes with her than a whole day with a Bugatti Veyron. LOL. I have 4 of them, but the youngest has gripped my heart the tightest. :-)
I'm trying to enjoy life now in a way that I really haven't in the past. I'm trying to remain as stress free as possible, so I can hopefully be here for many more years for and with my current wife. I do want to hang out here again and enjoy it, as well as relearn a few things, and pick up a few others as the technology has progressed in the 928 world with lots more aftermarket parts being manufactured now. I would also like to reconnect with those people that I've enjoyed time and friendly discussions with here on Rennlist.

This won't be super-slam-dunk helpful, but I recall a shop in NC, Cary I think, was noted a few times (on this forum) for being 928 proficient. Would stand to reason they may have a machinist that they have some confidence in.

Car in the avatar looks sharp.

No need to get all butthurt Chris, good luck with your new car.

Thanks Jim!! Good to hear from ya. LOL. Wish I had 4 Veyrons. At least then I could sell 3 to pay for gas and tires for the 4th one. :-)

Thanks folks for all the tips. Especially the ones that were PM'ed.
