Default Brake pad light

On my 89 as soon as I start the car the "Service Brake Pad" message comes up. I have visually checked all the pads, sensors and the connections are fully seated in the barrels.
Any write up for a step by step procedure to diagnosis the problem?
Thanks

Start by disconnecting each pad sensor set and confirming that you have electrical continuity through them. That's a resistance test with the meter, Ohms = close to zero. Then make sure the sensor plugs are plugged into the correct holes in the barrels. I found accidentally that I could plug the sensors into the third blank/no-connections hole in the barrel, and still get the cover closed. Of course the warning message came up.
