clearly you're too busy just hanging on following the s/c install!

Or, maybe your front end is in near-perfect condition and/or some compensation was factored into the alignment. Or, maybe I was wrong about the offset!

j/k- reading the rest of your sig, you must still find the Porsche to be a bit a snoozer- what's that thing (BMW) weigh in at?

As for the original question- is the chief consideration form or function?
For the former, there are more and more contemporary designs in 18".

For the latter, for optimal cruising, 17 is clearly the better choice. There is an abundance of tire sets available if one is willling to deal with a max 255 rear treadwidth. And, realistically, we're talking a ballpark 300 rwhp (when naturally aspirated) platform here, with an existing limitation (absent some moderate to high effort/expense work arounds) on front tire width, so going wider is principally a matter of placing cosmetics above road noise considerations in the grand touring context.

Thanks for the insight!

My 79 with 18's, lowered suspension on Koni reds rides smoother than my stock 81 on 17's.

The tire itself makes a difference, not just the size. The selection of 17" tires is getting very thin....much better and newer technology available in 18".

Also offset. I'll take an 18 or even an 19 if the offset if more "928 friendly" than the 17 in question.

You made me spit out my tea! LOL The BMW weighs a hefty 363 pounds.
Yes the SC install was painful but driving it is a hoot!
As for cruising, I don't seem to have any issues getting around with my larger wheels and tires. I enjoy the ride and had this configuration well before the SC. I agree the 17 might be a better choice but go big or go home right?
Surprisingly I have little to any road noise. But it's hard to hear over the whistle
