Ghost in the machine - Seat Switch woes

Driving home yesterday the drivers seat decided to spontaneously slide forward all the way causing a major crunch position. Fiddling with switch partially worked retracting the seat but the next road bump caused seat to move again.
The seat toggle button had partially came off and was cockeyed. I removed the toggle button and found one of the small springs dislodged from it's cylinder and a ball bearing on the carpet.
I would like to re-assemble the switch but I think the 4 retaining tabs are fatigued which is why it got loose in the first place. Are there any tips on how to re-assemble these switches without ball bearings and springs flying all over the place? It looks like I need to remove the seat and switch to get gravity on my side when trying to place the button, springs and ball bearings back in place.
Or is there a modern replacement? I've got the seat back in a comfortable position and removed the fuse for now but want to get this fixed.
Thanks

It's a LOT easier to work on the switches (and the rest of the movement mechanism) with the seats out. It's not all that hard to pull the seats either. You have to run the seats all the way forward to reach the back bolts, and all the way back to reach the front bolts. Up all the way both front and back helps too.
The switches themselves are fairly "fiddly" to get back together. When the seats are out, you can have the switches positioned so that the ***** & springs are upright. It makes assembly MUCH easier. Easier enough that it makes it worth the effort to pull the seats, IMO.
Thread I used to do my seat switches. It's more about cleaning the contacts, but it has a few good pics on taking apart and reassembly of the switches:
