Default Wonky N/P starting switch?

hey guys,

My '89 928 S4 has an intermittent starting problem where it will occasionally turn over in park but not actually start, but usually if you flip it to neutral and give it another shot (provided it isn't flooded and the starter hasn't chewed through the battery) it will start right up.

I'm thinking the N/P starting switch is either out of adjustment or on the way out, sound like I'm on the right track? Any other suggestions?

The switch controls only the starter operation - nothing to do with engine running.

Okay, back to square one.

It seems to happen when the car is warm like if I run to the store and come out 10 minutes later.
