Default General thread pitch on M6 bolts used on Porsche's?

Is it 1.00 or 1.25? Most M8's are 1.25 for general duties on the car (some 1.00 for certain things where fine is needed) which would make me think M6 would be 1.00.

Usually it is 1.00 for general duties on the 928. Not sure where a 1.25 would be used though. I'm sure Gregg or another 928 guru would know.

M6x1.0 is the ISO standard coarse thread. Also what is considered 'standard'

Ok i thought it was 1.00. What do you mean what is considered standard? A specific measurement, this being the width of the cut thread from "peak to peak", and i guess up to a certain number it is classified as fine and above that it is classified as a course thread fastener.

I'm not aware of an M6 bolt that isn't 1.00 thread pitch, on a 928.

Thanks for posting. I need to pick up some 20mm and 25mm M6 bolts for my upcoming timing belt / water pump job and was wondering the same thing.

Yeah i tend not to rely on the person on the other side of the counter to know what i'm looking for, i've gotten the wrong parts most of the time by doing that. So i just do my homework first and know specifically what i want/need rather than rely on some idiot at the parts counter. The fasteners place i go to here in London (Facca Fasteners) has most everything you could need, got some cam cap bolts (M8x1.25 pan head) that would have been like 4 bucks a bolt OEM price. The only thing you have to surrender to Porsche on is the weird cam cover bolts. Also got a set of 16 exhaust manifold studs, well they're technically set screws (M8x35), but they're just like the aftermarket stud kits the big 3 sell, allen head (which makes them easier to install too).

FYI, torque spec for M6 "bolts" if you can call them that, is 6+1 foot-pounds. Ask me how I know, but you can probably guess. For the layman that is something between breathing on your ratchet wrench and gently leaning on it.

Consider yourselves warned.

I never torque anything petty like an M6, because more often than not M6's are not critical fasteners, they're usually just to hold light trim/covers/brackets. Although i would say most people overtorque fasteners when not using a torque wrench. I only turn them until i start getting preload, then a little wee bit more, never had a problem...

Well the PET gives you a number of 3 , 9 x 13. I have always wondered if the mark Porsche uses is a decimal or a comma. If you have a dedicated fasteners place nearby go to them with the screw you need and tell them to match it up. Get a bunch just in case, they're cheap.
