question about under dashboard shelf

Default question about under dashboard shelf

On my 87 im looking to remove the under dash shelf on the driverside(passenger side is covered) my question is will the later years (not sure when they changed) kneepad fit on my 87 without any major modification?

LOL - I tried that this weekend. Yes, it can be done but there are drawbacks. You will not be able to raise or lower the pod and there is no mounting flange on the tunnel. And the left console cover will need a cutout for the right side mounts.

Here's a couple of pictures of the back of the knee pad. The first picture shows the mounting points you can use. Bolt goes through the dash. the second from the right matches one of the S4's mounts, the next one needs to attach behind the bottom cheese head bolt holding the steering column. The right mount hangs in the air.

i stopped short of dying the bolster - if I did that I think it would be a nice addition. If you decide to move forward, I have couple of knee bolsters - one is in black leather.

Hmm...No pod up or down adjustments?

I don't think I could live with that.

Sure there is a workaround buy the steering column in the 91 GT I am parting out. Shameless plug.
