Had some problems that indicated ignition switch. Bought a new switch from Roger and used the visual guide on 928 International to get the pod loose enough to get at the switch.
While unscrewing panels, I found a dangling wire that should be connected to something under the dash. The female end of the connector is broken off, I can still see where it went under the pod.
On gaining enough access to the ignition switch to get at it, I realized that there was only one screw in it (on the bottom) and that screw was loose. So, I'm beginning to think that the ignition switch might be okay, but that it was not snug enough to turn with the key barrel.
I pulled the existing switch off the electrical connector to assess what's going on, and here's what I have:

What the hell is that two-wire connector dangling down?

Okay, I took a closer look. There are three wires there (red, black, red-black) and I don't think they're part of the ignition system. I think they're just bundled with the ignition wires. As best I can tell, the female connector broke off from the connector that's inside the square here. For orientation purposes, the picture is taken from the footwell looking up, and the firewall is toward the top of the picture.

In the red square: that is the key in/out switch - it detects just the presence of the key in the lock barrel. It is used to warn you of they key being left in the lock - causes a chime with the door open and ignition/accessories off.
Normal wiring colors are dual Black/Red on Pin 1 (to buzzer/dash & timing relay) and either single or dual (depends on year) Red/Black on Pin 2 (30 - battery supply).
Some earlier years had Red/Blue instead of Red/Black

OK, thanks.
Will the car operate without that being connected? If not, will it operate with it jumpered?
