Without some indication of what people are prepared to pay and what sort of demand there may be it is a bit difficult to guage what capital to put into the project. It would also be a waste of development time for strengthening the items if there was no demand (at a realistic price). I would also be looking at sacrificing a couple to test strenght and durability all which needs to be taken into accout in the final price.
The way it's looking at the moment there is going to be no room to involve a retailer.
The fact that my 'ordinary' 928 has a street value of at least 5 time that of either of my other two cars should tell you that I do not have a lot of spare cash to risk.

I would be willing to buy two at $250-ish. This, provided that the process of transferring the internals is reasonable.

Dave C,
Transferring the lock & cover plate is easy (three screws once the part is off the car).
I believe that Roger (& maybe others?) sells a replacement plastic latch piece & rivet which would make transferring this part unnecessary (or at least unwise - if you are doing this part replacement you may as well replace this wear item as well).

I'm still in for two.

Hi I voted for up to 200 and would go higher depending on what you make, I would be in for at least one.
The Hatch release is the only thing that doesn't work on my Blue '85, never has, the motor cycles just fine and the plastic release moves, I've tried years ago to adjust, thinking this part is cracked.
Thanks for putting this together for us!

UPDATE 23 JULY
I have got pricing for manufacture of 10 units at this stage.
It looks like we will be at the upper end of what most people are willing to pay. It also looks like I will need to offer these direct as I don't see any room for a retailer to make any money.
I will get a few made in the next few weeks so I can post some pictures, do some test fitting and try to assess their strength / durability.
It will also allow me to try to find out what is involved in becoming a small business partner (can't find any info in search! ) and to determine likely postage costs.
I will keep you posted on further developments.
