ATF leak at radiator

at some time they changed the lines from flexible sections over the cats to all metal up to the front of the car,
the replacement lines are now all metal up to the front.
This was done to eliminate the CAT fires that had taken so many of the the cars
My 88 S4 had flex lines over the cats and they were leaking, built date SN 1599, March 1988

Arrived to SC via scenic route. Only complaint was traffic move quite slow at times but that was OK. Went out to check leak a couple hours after trip and there is no leak just a single drop that didn't even hit the ground yet. Checked ATF level and its right where it belongs. BUT here is my issue ....I think it was overfilled all along because each time i checked it it was up to the cap which i figured it was alittle over filled. Now it is right on the money and leak has pretty much disappeared. Thoughts??

Also you shouldn't be overfilled even without a loss, but it may have helped you this time.

just to be clear the trans fluid level is checked with the engine running in park with the E brake on.
NOTE the WSM says to check it with the trans in neutral,
however its a bit safer to check it with the trans in park and the engine running, E brake applied.
NOTE when you shut off the engine the fluid will fill the tank,
and it will look over filled with the engine shut off.

conate,
Glad you made it back with incident. Sounds like you're home, and that is always good.
Describe how you fill, and get to level your ATF.
ATF leaks are not hard to find, and repair is straight forward.
Filling your ATF is specific, and being 'filled' incorrectly will be problematic.

Not home yet still in SC. I still haven't had to fill it. I check it by letting car warm up or drive around for 5 min then pull into garage, run through the gears then put it in neutral and set e brake.

Made it back to CT. Checked ATF often and the drip is now practically none existent. It forms 1 drop but never drips to ground. Checked ATF level and it is exactly where it was when I arrived in SC. Total miles=2000. Car ran great, with no issues.
