My 82 5 speed took a good hit in the front crossmember while having a close encounter with a huge pothole. Luckily I have good insurance.

They are going to replace the AC condenser and radiator even though they aren't leaking, just have dents.

Anyway, we sourced a new Behr from NAPA, yeah go figure, but the price is something like $2000. My insurance company doesn't care what radiator I install so I was thinking of the 928 Motorsports aluminum rad for about $800 delivered.

What are your experiences with this unit, good or bad? I understand it is high quality and is plug and play, but I would like to hear from guys who have actually installed one.

Also I am in need of a decent belly pan for the 82. Mine is bent beyond repair.

928 International just announced a new aluminum rad they have designed.

Give them a call.

Perhaps Mark will jump in with details.

Unfortunately the pan was folded over near the attachment points and the the metal was tore near the alternator hose opening. I will bring it to a body shop, but I think it is beyond repair.

I pounded out all the dents and repainted it a few months ago, so that didn't work out too well.

If anyone has one, I will pay top $ for it, or I should say, my insurance company will….

Merlin, love the avatar. I attended the 50th anny of the Spitfire at RAF Boscome Down in 1985 I think. Was a US Army helicopter pilot back then stationed in Germany. Every flyable Spit was there, over 30 if I remember right. Those Brits can sure throw a great week long party!!!!!

Yes, it fits right behind the heavy crossmember under the radiator. Only goes back to the oil pan and alternator, far enough to protect the belts.

C'mon, no one has any experience installing the new model of 928 Motorsport's aluminum radiator? I really need some feedback as I must order it very soon.

I installed one in my car last year. Pretty much a drop in replacement. It sits just a tad bit higher I think. I needed to trim a tad off the upper fan shroud to get it to fit right. Also there was no drain orifice on the both right side. But it drains just fine by pulling the lower hose.
I've only had it a year but no problems so far.
I did this as an upgrade when the engine was out. I went with the electric fan as well. Also the aluminum reservoir.

I'm not sure I understood what your insurance will cover, but if cost is not an issue (to you, anyway), I would have them get the Behr and not worry about it for the next 20 years. If it turns out that the Behr at NAPA is vaporware and time is of the essence then I'd go with the motorsports radiator.

I think roger now carries freshly built OEM Radiators by BEHR (someone convinced them to do another run.) You can reach out to him about it.

The Behr radiator from NAPA is being delivered to my mechanic Monday, but the price!!!!

My insurance will pay me the $2100 for the marked up Behr, but if I can get a reasonable replacement for $800 and use the extra $ for other 928 parts, then all the better.

I have been told the Behr's are non existent and this one in Houston is the last one around in any parts pipeline. I have to call Roger Monday anyway, I will ask.

My 81 Behr one gave up the ghost as one of the side tank seals failed (which I understand is a common weak point). I got a replacement from http://www.radtec.co.uk which did the trick and as it's design has no tank seals, hopefully greater longevity.

Behr radiator is readily available but circa $2000 each depending on which one you need.
Cheapest is the no cooler rad.
