Cheers Dr Bob, That's a huge help for me to know what I'm tracking down I'll likely get back at it tomorrow and will post back what I find. One of the first things I did was disconnect the stereo and it made no difference, still kept burning. Having said that, I realize that the heat from melting the insulation could have affected the surrounding wires. My plan is to unwrap the harness as necessary, inspect, repair as needed, and then find out the root cause of this.
