Default S4 Front Suspension on S Car - Which tie-rods to use?

I have installed a complete used S4 front suspension on my US '83 S. This was done to be compatible with the 4-piston S4 brakes. I have got the car all put back together. Obviously it will need an alignment. The steering rack and tie-rods were not changed. The front end is not settled yet, but the toe-in is visibly quite extreme even with the existing tie-rods adjusted to almost their shortest. So, my question is what tie-rods have been used by others who have done this swap? There seem to be 2 types of tie-rods available: 928 347 031 01 (for '78 to '86.5) and 928 347 031 07 (for '86.5 to '95). What is the difference between them? Is the later one shorter? By how much?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom that can be shared.

Been there done that. You need the shorter S4 tie rods.

you could also trim a half inch off the ends of each tie rod shaft its a bit of a task but it can be done.

I would recommend to fit new parts.

However if the old tierods are good or recently fresh then what do you have to lose?
