Sorry, the difference is in MY. 5.9 was the correct number for my 85, 5 for the earlier models.

And apparently even 5.9 was wrong. Closer examination of the manual at 38-139 reads 8.7 ft./lbs. (8 n/m). Need new glasses...

Hi Scott.. I am not sure which year I referred to. I just thought 5.9 in-lbs seemed very very low.

Well I have replaced my trans pan finally!!! I did however changed the fluid reservoir to a newer one. So hopefully that doesn't cause trouble.

Old one with different fluid reservoir.

New used pan and new and different fluid reservoir.

The more important question is: Did the replacement cure the leak?

Maybe a picky point, but... invest in some spray engine cleaner and the garden hose to make the trans gleam. Better to do it before you even drop the pan, getting all that crud before there's the slightest risk of any getting into the sensitive areas once the pan is off. Do it a day or two in advance, helps you identify all the leaks in advance so you don't miss anything.

The car is a lot more fun to work on when things are clean. The effort is certainly worthwhile for me.
