Ott X-Pipe Installed, Exposes Clutch…
Installed the x-pipe the other night, drove it hard last night; YAHOO!
However, under hard acceleration in third gear, once the tach hits 5,000 RPM the clutch slips bad, revving to 6.5k, something it never did prior to the x-pipe. Evidently the Ott X-Pipe is enabling the engine to produce more horsepower and torque, and now the clutch cannot handle it; big baby!
The clutch is stock and has 53k miles on it, and needs replacement. So the question is, does it make any sense to replace it with another stock unit, or, is there a high-performance alternative available?
If I replace it with a stock disc, pilot bearing, and throwout bearing, do I need a new pressure plate too?

You need the double disk! It holds massive amounts of torque. Check with marc at Devek....their white car has the twin disk stock clutch from the earlier cars. Callaway used a sinter disk setup in my car....they sent the disks out to be resurfaced. Biggest POS clutch I have ever owned. Loud, no modulation and killed everything inside. I am back on the stock clutch with nearly 400 HP with no issues. They are supposed to hold over 500 rear wheel, but Marc could confirm this.
Note to self: When installing and adjusting the twin disk, make sure you wear safety glasses, so the socket you have holding the lever arm out doesn't smash you in the face, resulting in a split open upper cheek that heals and then gets infected and leaves you with a shark bite!

we made over 480 rwtq and the clutch holds fine.....we found that the stock S4 clutch fried at the 6.0 l mark, and we use a GTS clutch for those engines and some 6.5's, but most 6.5 require a double disc or special prepared clutch setup ...we did one for a local supercharged 928'er.

Here's what I'm thinking:
For long-term, it looks like I definitely need the double disc.
For the short-term just to get me through the remainder of this driving season, I'm going to install another stock disc, pilot and throwout bearings.
Marc, which setup did the supercharged car receive, the double disc, or the 'special prepared clutch setup'? What is the 'special prepared clutch setup'?
Those supercharger boys up in Green Bay have some ideas regarding prep work on the pressure plate. The 21 psi 928 guy (..soon to be 27 psi) up there has a 350 rwhp, custom built supercharged motorcycle (..a 914 engine). He was experiencing burning clutches, and finally an idea occurred to him; he did a little machine work on the pressure plate and never had a problem since. The thinking is that the same principles should apply to the 928 clutch.
Do you guys have a 'retro' double disc kit available, and if so, what parts are included, and how much does it cost?
