Default steering rack seals?

The boots for both sides are full. Sorry I haven't searched, pain on the phone..... Anyway, is there a seal set I can replace or do I need to look into rebuilt units????

Rennbay has seal kits: http://rennbay.com/Power-Steering/92...-Seal-Kit.html. They come with reasonably good instructions although if you use them note that the method they advocate(d?) for removal of the pinion seal is not a good way to go IMHO. Also note that these seals won't fix sloppy bushings, but ASFAIK a lot of rebuilt racks don't, either.

Curt,
the bushings are also available if you need them by getting a kit from a ZF agent.

This is harder than it seems. The seals go in "backwards" and that's tricky. I got a bunch of seals themselves and did it that way. Problem was that the rod was corroded and would eat the seals in short order if I got them in right the first time. I only noticed that after the third or fourth try. I forget how many but I got good and getting ATF all over. Finally got a rebuilt and only got ATF all over one more time.

YMMV.

Seems for few hundred a rack is a better bet.... Anyone interested in the core of this one? '87 with 76k miles?

I might be interested. I resealed the rack in my dad's '87 but I think it may be bad. Not sure yet, but it can't hurt to have a good spare core.

I re-sealed my rack and it only lasted 6 months. No leaks on the rod ends, but the yoke seals failed and power was lost to the left side.

May be more ideal to get a rebuilt rack from Roger or 928int
