Default Report on Plastex repair of chin spoiler

The following are my observations based on using this product for the first time. The spoiler was in 3 pieces plus had scuff & scrape marks over a number of areas. It was probably worth replacing but I wanted to try a repair. The product comes in 3 colours -black, white and clear with black being the strongest as it contains graphite and carbon fiber. The kits come in a # of sizes and I chose the "Regular Kit" which provides (A)50 ml of liquid and (B) 30gram of powder and a variety of small containers and dispenser tips. I used about 30% of the kit on my repair and the smaller kit would have been insufficient.
There are several ways of using the product, which states that it will not work with the poly plastics, I believe that the spoiler is a polyethelene but I spoke with the distributor who suggested a technique for this application.
I first used some 1/16" thick aluminum backing plates with aluminum rivets to join the various pieces. The rivet holes were counter sunk so that the rivet surface was flush with the spoiler surface on the visable side and then filled with Plastex. Various cuts and scrapes were sanded and then filled with Plastex which dried in about 25 minutes at room temp., once the areas had sufficient coverages the entire spoiler was mouse sanded leaving the depressed areas with their normal grainny appearance while the raised areas were sanded flat.
Three coats of Canadian Tire Bumper paint -flat were applied and I feel that the end result is quite good. Hopefully the repaired areas will stand the flexing required to reinstall. Although the paint is a "flat" finish it actually finished with a low semi - gloss finish.
Contrary to the instructions provided with the product I simply poured enough of the powder to fill the depression and then applied the liquid.
Bottom line, not inexpensive - $45.00 incl tax and shipping; does a good job of filling in voids and scratches, I don't believe that it would be sufficently strong enough to join two sections together without a backing plate or fibreglass reinforcement.
Any ? pls contact me on my email account as listed on this site.
