Default VA 928 drivers - front plate exemption?

There is an exemption for front plates on antique vehicles in VA (25+ years old here) that may apply and I wanted to see what you guys think since I haven't seen it mentioned here before and I don't think many people know about it.

Here is the relevant part of the code:

C. Notwithstanding the provisions of §§ 46.2-711 and 46.2-715, antique motor vehicles may display single license plates if the original manufacturer's design of the antique motor vehicles allows for the use of only single license plates or if the license plate was originally issued in one of the following years and is displayed in accordance with the provisions of subsection B of this section: 1906, 1907, 1908, 1909, 1945, or 1946.

I'm in the middle of a dispute with base security (I'm active military) over my 928 needing the front plate mounted on the bumper to drive on base...

I was pulled by one of the local deputy sheriffs for not having a plate and when I showed him that there was no mount available he let me go.

^ that's the law in Nevada. No mount, you don't need a plate!

I wish I wish I wish!...

So a couple of related questions,,,is it considered antique even if you do not use those horrible Va Black and white Antique plates? I won't put those on, plus I do not want the potential restrictions to worry about.
Wonder if they will squawk if I remove my mount that is already on there? I might try it if the holes are easy to patch. I have my window sticker scanned in Evernote on my phone to prove the year.... plus the registration of course.

Reading the code again you posted,,, I have a sneaky feeling they really want it though...I may talk to a Trooper or the DMV to get an official opinion.

I removed my mount, and bought some hole plugs at pep zone. Painted them with some fancy touch up paint. You would never know they were there.

Well, it doesn't say vehicles registered as an antique, it simply states antique vehicles. So who knows what they really mean, I'm not worried about a ticket for no front plate much anyway. I'm just going to use it to argue with security at military bases who give me a hard time.

I was pulled over in Maine for I had the wrong plates on the car. I had applied, and received, approval online for a vanity plate. It was to come in about 2 weeks. The next day I was pulled over for the new plate number came up on the screen in the patrol car, but I still had my existing plates on the car. The officer said I should take them off and put any kind of cardboard (or such) on there with the new plate number until I receive the new ones. He said in Maine that's all you need to have - registration # and stickers and be legible. I was thinking about getting this for my front plate in light of that information.

I know about it

I printed the page from the DMV site and keep it in the car. This only applies to cars over 25 years old and with antique plates.
