Default Power Source for Seats

1985, engine and harnesses out. Seats worked fine with power. Now that the main power souce is out of the car, I need to remove the seats. Where can I apply power to work the fore and aft switch, so I can remove the seats? Thank you.

8 Pin connector for comfort seats.

Pins: 5 & 7 are Ground (you will need to connect both to have all switch positions work)

Pins: 6 & 8 are battery power (fused @30A - you will need to connect both to have all switch positions work)

The seat heating is on other pins.

If you can't reach & unplug the connectors under the seats - power the jump post (make sure the starter connections are insulated) Or just unplug CE connector G & power the loom CE plug pin G11* with 30A fused power (use a male 1/4" blade quick connector) and ground the chassis at any ground point.

*note this is year dependant

In case I have trouble pulling the connector, is this manual technique under the plastic cover? Thanks OTR.

yes, I learned this here, as my driver seat did not work when I bought my 928. just remove the cover and you will see an allen head socket, this moves the seat forward and back only, but it's all you need to remove the seat to find a broken wire underneath.

Easiest (if everything still works in the seats) is to do the option noted:

Unplug CE connector G & power the loom CE plug pin G11* with 30A fused power (use a male 1/4" blade quick connector) and ground the chassis at any ground point.

You can buy the 1/4" quick disconnect blade connector at any auto store & crimp it on a wire.

Just a note if you go for the manual allen head: Go slow and easy. You are turning a fairly small nylon gear. It has one tooth missing so that it isn't driven all the time when the seat is moved electrically. It will feel like it's jumping a tooth every time it comes around. It's disconcerting at first, it feels like the gear is stripping out.

Be patient, go slow.

As for my S4, take out the front seat motor cover and apply 12V directly to motor, reverse the power to move it in opposite direction. Don't know if this is same for your 85.

Use your jumper cables. - connect the battery cable at the starter end to the jump post in the engine compartment. Re-connect the battery ground strap, and everything (windows, seats, etc) will have power as usual.

This is an old 928intl trick I learned a while ago.
