Thom, thanks, I was still looking, but man this ground topic stretches for miles!
That is what is referred to as the Core Support (Radiator Core). Now I really what Digital Pic of those (1 and 4), that was a major change!
Well that takes care of #1 and 4 question!

Ok, I wouldn't have been able to find them either from my description .
Here is the drivers side
And the passengers side - buried under a wiring harness, so I couldn't get a good shot of it. Looks for the red wires under the L bracket.

Does the 79-83s have the same one as attached to the engine and chassis like this one (MP-IX)? FWIW, the book shows one on each side (MP_VIII), but I only have one? Anyone else?

In my 1980 I have one attachment up on the passengers side of the block looping down and over to the body. It doesn't look quite like the one shown, though the cable is the same braided type.
In order to get to the aft ground point, the rear trim panel needs to come out, which means the back seat and seatbelts and.... fuggetaboutit. I have just assumed mine was ok.

After reading the above posts a few times I can't help but think you problem is with your cluster. Everything was working fine till it was removed and replaced.
Tim; "After recently boasting driving the 80 for the last three years every day, she just went under. I had just finished installing a new speedometer. After the reassembly process I noticed my alternator gauge had stopped working......"
Karl suggestion; "There is a resistor in the inst. pot that creates the excitation current for the alternator. Several times in the past I have had no charging after working on the pod."
Glen suggestion; "The resistor is in parallel with the warning light on the voltmeter. That's at the low end of the range. If the bulb and resistor are toast, you'll get no charge and no indicator of that."
MR. P suggestion; "I would suggest that you go to http://www.nichols.nu/tip692.htm
and learn how to test the alternator and its circuits."
I'm sure you've had plenty of off board help, has anything helped yet?
