82 Euro S No Start
I've had the car at the body shop for quite sometime -- they've
never had an issue with it firing up.
Sure enough -- they are almost done and they went to move it yesterday and
she'd crank all day -- but no start.
I happened to be out there last night picking up a race car -- so I gave it a try with no luck. Cranks well, just doesn't even hint at starting.
This car has always fired on the 2nd crank if the starter engaged. I did have an issue at one time with the tranny sensor -- but then there would be no starter.
1/2 tank of gas per gauge -- and I shot some starter fluid down the intake
a couple times -- then tried to start it -- I was by myself, so couldn't do both at same time.
I didn't have any other tools or info with me at the time
and the body shop has limited hours -- so not like
I can get out there over the weekend.
I'm guessing that because the starter fluid didn't help -- that it must be spark -- but
I didn't have a way to check that last night.
I really don't want to have to trailer it home -- figure it out, then
take it back to finish the last of the body work.
However at home I can tinker -- as time allows. There I've got to be more tactical.
thoughts?
thanks,
Mike

The timing system is dead simple. I'm surprised that was the failure instead of the fuel pump.
Apply a timing light and see if that's really not working. Perhaps a visual inspection will show a loose wire or something.

Quick follow up Q:
Does the tach bounce on a 928 just like it does on a 944 (although it has a DME and my 928 doesn't)
The tach bounce is our simplest debug gauge on our 944 race car.
thanks,
Mike

Green Wire:
Is this the wire from the 14 pin to the coil input?
Is there a way to check this in situ -- after showing from the coil there is no spark?
thx,
Mike

98% of wont starts are green wire failures,
if your wire is original or old then replace it,
it should last another 25 years or more
