I've been trying- unsuccessfully so far- to attach the arm for my central vent vacuum actuator. I've searched for and read a bunch of posts and threads on the topic... but haven't seen anything that answers my question.

So... before I take apart my interior even further:

To those familiar w/actuator attachment to center comb flap: Does this attachment point look broke to you?

Mahalo!

The best thing to do is to drill a 1" hole between the comb flap actuator and the vent per Dwayne's write-up here:

http://www.dwaynesgarage.norcal928.o...0Procedure.htm

Then you'll be able to see if the plastic standoff is in good shape. You can then take a flat-head screwdriver and leverage the handle of the actuator into the stand-off from straight-on versus from the side.

If the standoff is broken (mine has 4 little posts - hard to tell from your picture if all 4 are there) then you may have some more dismantling to go to get to it.

I had really good luck reattaching the arm by pointing the video camera on my phone, flash on, into the hole.

Aloha Mike!

Thanks for the reply. To be honest- although I have been following that write-up- and others- as I did the majority of the HVAC diaphragm work, the idea of cutting/drilling a hole must have escaped me as useful measure.

Cutout made, inspection performed, 25% of posts remaining... on to removing more HVAC stuff and/or dash... which might actually make changing another diaphragm (Defrost) much, much easier.

Thanks again!

Hmmm... I didn't try that, but great idea.

I have an extendable mirror w/it's own light- and that helped, but what I needed to view/inspect was the attachment point for the center comb flap vacuum actuator.

Now that I've seen it and know that it is kaput, I'm looking forward to further dissassembly...

Thanks again... will save that one for future use...
