Hey Tim, how's it goin'?
KLA Industries, a Rennlist Sponsor, sells that replacement gear.
Their website and info:
KLA Industries
Their website also contains instructions (with pictures) on how to change the gear.

Tim;
I would highly recommend Jeff Caplan at http://www.odometergears.com. Jeff's a stand-up guy...helped me with a difficult situation last winter with my odo gear. His number is not listed on his website, but I am sure he would not mind if I gave it to you. He readily offered to talk to me on the phone to work out a solution to me situation. He makes a top notch product as well.
For what it is worth, I'd have no reservations about dealing with Jeff (or KLA for that matter) via the 'Net and services like PayPal. In fact, I did just that with Jeff in March past.
If you e-mail me, I'll send his contact info to you directly. I'm sure he would call you, as well, if you e-mail him.
As another alternative, you can look for a certified VDO repair shop in the UK. I found a list of shops on the VDO USA website at http://www.vdona.com/Tech%20Support/repairpage.htm. I'm sure you will fine something similar in the UK. There are also instrument repair shops that are not "certified", but will have access to the parts you need, as well. These people usually want to repair the instrument rather than just sell the parts, but sometimes exceptions came be made...
