CL: Santa Barbara, '84 Euro project
http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/cto/4473646793.html
I am planning on going to look at this tomorrow afternoon. I sent an email and the story is that he brought it here from Arizona 3 years ago, never smogged or registered, seems to only need minor work, $2000. It seems he's lost his storage space.
Anything in particular I should look for or ask about?

California REQUIRES that all grey market cars if not currently registered/titled in California must PROVE that they are fully compliant for all federalization issues....basically means recertified by an approved lab.
Process costs thousands of dollars with no guarantee that it will pass. Came about because so many of the imported Euro cars were poorly done by labs which long ago ceased to exist. So California opted to basically ban the registration of out of state titled Grey market cars. Remember they HATE old cars here anyway !!
I had several customers who moved to California only to discover that the old Euro 928 they brought with them either needed to be sold out of state, junked , or simply parked.... And no I did not talk to this owner but am quite sure he has learned about California rules for his car.

It's still available, I'll go look at it later this evening. Both parties I've talked to say the car "has to go" one way or another. It appears there's no place to store it.

Not as advertised. Not an 84, not a Euro. Could be a good project for someone, but due to the timing issues it will probably end up in a wrecking yard or tow yard.
I read the VIN as WP0JA0928CS821913
It's a sketchy story. Owner brought the car with him from Arizona when he moved here a few years ago, as a project. It's been in storage ever since. He's now lost his storage, and run into legal trouble. Apparently he's lost his driver's license, and apparently that led to his arrest on an outstanding warrant. He's in the county poke right now. I met a friend of his to view the car. She claimed to have the key but couldn't find it when she came out to meet me at the car, which is parked on a vacant lot in Isla Vista (the UC Santa Barbara student ghetto). It can stay there for an undetermined amount of time, probably a couple of days tops. Does not run, owner claimed it's only a fuel pump issue, FWIW, which probably isn't much. The interior is trashed. Lots of stuff pile inside, I really couldn't see what since the doors were locked. I could see that the instrument cluster was missing (had a box with "fuel pump" written on it stuck inside the pod). Apparently it's an auto but couldn't see in. The body looks straight. Dark tint on the windows, which is normal for Zonie cars.
She claims that the pink slip is available, when owner gets out of jail, which they are expecting tomorrow.

My 86 Euro 635 was in this case- importer/ original owner brought it into CA then moved to AZ then came back to CA with AZ plate which I bought and reregistered in CA again in 93.
