Default OB Intank fuel pump noise

My car still has the in tank fuel pump installed.

Recently I started hearing what I thought was the main fuel pump getting much louder when it got hot so today I disconnected the main pump in preparation to replace it and decided to put the jumper in the fuel pump relay to check the in tank pump.

In tank pump runs but is 5X the noise level of the main pump, both existing and new pump tested dry.

How loud should a good in tank pump be? I expected a hum and mine growls.

I can't say I've ever heard one unless my ear is right next to it.

Thanks Sean. I figured hearing it inside the car when running is likely an indication it is not happy.

Time to transition to a strainer I guess. Oh Roger!
